R&D experiments for muon machines in Europe

SPC Meeting
21 september and subsequent developments
report by A. Blondel
Already before the Lyon workshop it had become apparent
that our small muon community in Europe
needed some coordination. Thus the idea that a
"steering group" would be useful to have.
The role of MUG is to discuss issues that are beyond internal
CERN policy
such as:
-- general orientation and coordination of efforts
-- search for collaborators in Europe and elsewhere
-- distribution of talks at conferences and laboratories
In order to avoid that conference organisers
always pick the same names
we will try to promote young speakers among
the participants to muon working groups
-- participation to international muon collaboration
-- organisation of plenary muon meetings, workshops etc...
-- coordination of experimental/theoretical work
and, as it turns out,
--contact with the CERN management.
-- take the blame for what goes wrong with muon studies in Europe.
These questions cannot be discussed in too large group or in too
small committee.
The size chosen (8 persons) seems to fit the purpose.
Help, constructive criticism and suggestions on all the above
issues,
and on the role and membership of MUG are welcome. send
mail to MUG
The members of MUG are listed below.
They were chosen in agreement with CERN management
to represent as well as possible the community interested
in Muon machines in EUROPE.
As can be seen MUG counts people from members states
and, at CERN, from accelerator physics,
experimental physics, technical support and theory.
Membership will probably evolve with time
as involvement spreads over a wider basis.
Alain Blondel is presently acting as contact/chair of MUG.
