Subject: Date: Tue, 25 Feb 2003 20:29:10 +0100 (CET) From: Juan Jose Gomez Cadenas To: ps-proj-hadroprod@listbox.cern.ch Summary of LA-reconstruction/Analysis meeting 25-02-03 ------------------------------------------------------- 1) There was a short discussion concerning t0. Friedrich remarked that t0 is computed from TOF-A and TOF-B information, using an algorithm written by Misha. The relevant information is available in the ntuple. 2) The schedule for protoproduction was reviewed. --Application ready (Anselmo, Simone) -- thurday 28-02 --protproduction finished (3 settings, Charles) -- monday 3-03 --chech protoproduction. Examine relevant ntuple variables to guarantee that there are no bugs or missing information.Feedback (to Malcom, JJ). Small corrections, if needed. (detector experts) ---friday 7-03 --Review and authorize start of production (Analysis meeting) 11-03 This is a CONSERVATIVE schedule which must be read as "It should not happen later than". In a more agressive scenario the production will start a few days earlier. 3) The following detector experts were proposed to take the responsibility checking protoproduction ntuples. 1) Large Angle ---coordinated by Gabriella 2) CHE ---Marco 3) TOF -- Danielle 4) Ecal -- Domizia 5) Trigger -- Alex 6) Beam --Piotr, Geoff DETECTOR EXPERTS ARE KINDLY REQUESTED TO CONFIRM THEIR AVAILABILITY FOR PROTOPRODUCTION STUDIES (NB, SCHEDULE ABOVE) 4) The strategy of ntuple production was next discussed. The issue of man power was reviewed. The production needs to be run by detector experts. The following preliminary arrangement was proposed: 1) Oxford -- 1 person (Charles) 2) INFN (Padova, Milano...) ---- 1 person (to be identified) 3) Dubna --- 1 person (+) (to be identified) 5) Finally there was a discussion about the calibration strategy itself. Friedrich defended that priority should be given to those data sets relevant for the forward and LA analysis, with a view of presenting preliminary results in July. Those are: a) K2K target and beam b) Mini Boone target and beam c) Water target (Gabriella pointed that this requires calibration with a dense target, say Tantalum) Jaap pointed out that the calibration effort should not be limited to those specific data sets but had to encompass all relevant sets to guarantee full detector calibration for 2001 and 2002 data. He argued that the effort to set up the calibration machinery for the various subdetectors was the time-conuming part of the task and it has to be done anyway. Calibrating the detector for a very specific configuration seemed a waste of resources, since the whole process had to be started again in the future. Thus he was strongly in favour of an strategy that would guarantee the calibration of the detector over the whole relevant data set. Friedrich pointed out that this effort would take too long and therefore would prevent preliminary physics results for the summer, which he considers a must. THe discussion was postponed, also with a view of obtaining imput from detector leaders. Finally, Ugo Gastaldi presented his ideas concerning a possible technical publication. Regards, JJ
