Subject: Minutes of last `Tuesday' meeting Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 17:28:22 +0200 (CEST) From: Friedrich DYDAK To: ps-proj-hadroprod@listbox.cern.ch Minutes of the HARP group meeting held at CERN on 15 October 2002 ================================================================= ***************************************************************** REMINDER: Come to the HARP `pull-the cable' and `farewell-to-Piero' party this Friday, 16.00 h, at the experiment! ADVANCE NOTICE: The HARP `end-of-datataking' party (with invited guests) will take place on Monday 9 December, 16.00 h, at the experiment. The collaboration meeting ongoing that day will be unterrupted and resumed on Tuesday 10 Decmber (morning only). EPILOGUE: This was the last `Tuesday' group meeting, you won't receive anymore these weekly meeting minutes. From now on, we will have analysis meetings instead, convened and chaired by the analysis coordinator, J.J. Gomez Cadenas. On average, the meetings will be held every two weeks, in the same conference room 304/1-001A. Timing: 14.30 - 16.30 h. Phone conferencing encouraged (will try to locate the origin of present noise and fix it, sorry for the inconvenience!). Next meeting dates: 22.10., 29.10., 12.11. ***************************************************************** 1. J. Wotschack, the last physics run coordinator, reported that the planned statistics of `empty-target' data with the 18 cm long hydrogen was achieved. The data taking with beam was terminated according to schedule on Thursday 10 October at 08.00 h. L. Linssen took over as coordinator of the subsequent calibration activities. 2. Two days were spent with a new calibration of the TPC with radioactive krypton gas. The calibration is considered completed successfully. 3. Two further days were spent with cosmic-muon data taking in the TPC (triggering with coincidences of opposite-side barrel RPCs), with and without solenoidal field. More than 2m good events were collected for each setting. 4. In parallel to the TPC data taking, the TOF-wall took calibration data with cosmic muons in stand-alone mode. The data are considered satisfactory. 5. Then, data taking with our good old TPC stopped (thanks to Piero and his team for this jewel which worked and worked and worked...!). Now flat cosmic muons are triggered upon by a coincidence of FTP, TOF wall and the cosmic-muon wall. Rate 1.5 events per second. Purpose: ECAL calibration, TOF wall checks, and NDC global alignment (specifically: rotation of the chambers w.r.t. each other). Data taking continues until Monday 21.10 in the morning. Hope to collect some 400 k `good muons' until then. The apparatus is looked after regularly by a few people but there are no more shifts. 6. Then, C. Wiebusch will take over and perform a timing calibration of all TDCs. 7. Then, (our) C. Detraz will become serious and start ripping the experiment apart. (Minutes written by F. Dydak)
